Shandilya sibling set new meet records in hammer

Divya Shandilya and her younger brother Mohit Narayan Shandilya won hammer gold edals with New Meet Records (NMR) on the third and last day of the 66th Odisha State Athletics Meet here at Barabati Stadium today. Divya achieved the feat in women’s category with a throw of 50.85 metre, while Mohit did it in under-16 boys group with an effort of 38.06 metre.

The State Meet produced a total of nine New Meet Records, including three in the final day. The day’s third NMR was established by Rashmita Nayak in women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12.41.7 seconds. Cuttack emerged overall champions with 624 points, while Sundargarh finished runners-up with 372 points.

Olympian Dutee Chand and Samsad Ara Begum bagged double each with the former winning women’s 100m and 200m gold and the latter claiming titles in women’s 5000m and 10000m events. Dutee received the Sashikanta Mohapatra Memorial Trophy as the Best Female Athlete of the Meet. The award for the Best Male Athlete of Meet was given to Birupakshya Digal of Kandhamal.
